Matt Damon to Star in Anti-Fracking Movie

A new Hollywood film is apparently in the works which will cast negative light on fracking.

According to the producers of FrackNation, Matt Damon co-wrote and plans to star in a movie entitled Promised Land.  They also report that John Krasinski (Jim Halpert in The Office) will co-star and Gus Van Sant (who directed Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, Milk) will direct.

The movie's IMDB page states that Frances McDormand (Raising Arizona, Fargo, Almost Famous) and Hal Holbrook (All the President's Men, The Firm, Wall Street) are on board to appear in the film, and it shows Krasinski as a co-writer with Damon.  More after the jump...

Damon is one of several Hollywood names to state their opposition to fracking.  Robert Redford, Debra Winger, and Mark Ruffalo have also come out against it.

Between a big-name Hollywood production and the HBO-backed Gasland sequel, there is a lot of money going into anti-fracking productions.  FrackNation is trying to tell the other side of the fracking story with grassroots support.  The fundraising effort closed a few minutes ago, and they raised $212,265.

It will be interesting to see if FrackNation can gain any traction against the big-budget giants it is trying to counteract.
