Carroll Concerned Citizens Will Meet to Discuss Aquifer Dangers

From the Canton Repository:
CARROLLTON — Carroll Concerned Citizens will host Julie Weatherington-Rice at its meeting Thursday when she will provide results from her research on public water protections of the aquifer in Carroll and surrounding counties.
Weatherington-Rice has been working with the village of Carrollton for many years to document and protect its water well field from proposed coal mining and now shale gas development.
“Most residents think that (Ohio Department of Natural Resources’) permit processes protect municipal and private water sources,” said Paul Feezel, chair of Carroll Concerned Citizens. “However, since ODNR lost an important water protection lawsuit in 1988, they have had little power to stop new permits, even when municipal water sources are at risk.”
Weatherington-Rice’s presentation provides important information on hydrology, current public policy and steps elected officials and landowners can take to help protect their water, Feezel said. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 353 Moody Ave., Carrollton, and is open to the public.
For information, contact Feezel at 330-627-7163 or at carrollconcernedcitizens.org.
