Utica Shale Now Over 1,200 Permits, 800 Wells Drilled

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has released their latest weekly update on Utica shale permitting.  It shows that two more milestones have been passed in another active week.

19 new permits were issued last week.  Guernsey County was once again the hot spot, with 7 permits.  5 permits were for Noble County wells, 4 for Carroll County, 2 for Tuscarawas, and 1 for Belmont.

With this latest activity there are now over 1,200 permits issued for horizontal drilling in Ohio's Utica shale (1,202, to be exact).  The number of wells drilled also increased, crossing the 800 mark (with 810).  Producing wells went up by 3, to 389.  The Utica rig count is now 41.
