13 New Utica Shale Permits Issued Last Week

The latest weekly update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on permitting in the Utica shale is now available.  Drillers keep chugging forward despite the low natural gas and oil prices.

13 new permits were issued in the week ending February 28.  Carroll County was once again the hot spot for new permits, with seven of the 13 permits.  All of those were issued to Chesapeake Energy, which also was given permits to drill a well in Columbiana County and another in Jefferson County.  The four remaining permits on the report were issued to Eclipse Resources for wells in Monroe County.

The total number of horizontal permits has now reached 1,837.  1,382 wells have been drilled, 818 are listed as producing, and the Utica rig count stands at 37.
