Lisbon Chamber of Commerce President Confident That Shale Activity Will Pick Back Up

While new oil and gas activity may have ground to a halt in Columbiana County, the slowdown is expected to be a lull before eventually resuming, at least according to some members of the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce. 
Speaking at this week's meeting, chamber president Susan Shank said she has noticed a decline in business at her store near Hanoverton that sells clothing and gear used by oil and gas workers. 
"I'm feeling a bit of a downturn, and I was wondering if we're being left out," said Shank, who changed her opinion after recently attending an oil and gas exposition held near St. Clairsville in Belmont County, which has become the new drilling focal point of the eastern Ohio Utica shale play. 
Shank came away from the event encouraged that oil and gas development in Columbiana County will resume. "We just have to be proactive," she said, referring to local elected officials.
